BILLIONAIRE ARRIVED HOME UNANNOUNCED AND SAW THE MAID WITH HIS SON — WHAT HE SAW SHOCKED HIM

Chapter 7

The abandoned factory stood outside Providence.

Nothing remained above ground except broken concrete and weeds.

But beneath it was an underground structure.

Adrian found the entrance using his father’s old blueprints.

The door opened with the same key.

Inside, the air smelled of dust and metal.

Clara followed closely.

They heard voices.

Adrian stopped.

Ethan.

His son was alive.

They moved toward the sound.

Then Adrian saw him.

Ethan was sitting at a table.

Across from him was an elderly man.

Adrian’s father.

Richard Blackwood.

Adrian hadn’t seen him in twelve years.

The old man looked at his son.

“You came.”

Adrian’s voice shook.

“Give me my son.”

Richard looked at Ethan.

“Your son is safe.”

“You kidnapped him.”

“I protected him.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“You murdered my wife.”

Richard’s expression changed.

“I didn’t.”

“Then who did?”

Richard looked at Clara.

“Her father.”

Clara froze.

“My father?”

Richard nodded.

“Your father was part of the network.”

Clara couldn’t breathe.

“He died when I was a child.”

“No.”

Richard looked at her.

“He disappeared.”

Adrian stared.

Everything was becoming more complicated.

Richard continued.

“Victoria discovered the adoption network. She tried to expose it. Your father was one of the men involved.”

Clara shook her head.

“No.”

“I have proof.”

Richard opened a file.

Inside were photographs.

Clara’s father.

Marcus Hale.

Several government officials.

Doctors.

Lawyers.

All connected.

Clara began crying.

Adrian looked at Richard.

“Then why did you let Victoria die?”

“I tried to save her.”

“You failed.”

“Yes.”

Richard’s voice became quiet.

“That failure has haunted me every day.”

Adrian stared.

“Then why disappear?”

“Because the network had infiltrated everything.”

Richard explained that he had spent years gathering evidence.

Victoria had helped him.

She had discovered that someone inside Adrian’s company was financing the operation.

But before they could expose it, someone betrayed them.

Victoria was poisoned.

Richard disappeared to protect the evidence.

Adrian’s father had not been the mastermind.

He had been an undercover investigator.

The truth was almost unbelievable.

Then Ethan stood.

“Grandpa said Mom wanted me to have this.”

He handed Adrian a second envelope.

Adrian opened it.

Inside was Victoria’s final letter.

My love,

If Ethan is reading this, then the truth has finally found you.

I need you to know something.

Clara is not your enemy.

She is the reason our son survived.

Adrian looked at Clara.

The letter continued.

I asked her to protect Ethan if anything happened to me.

She agreed even though she knew the danger.

Please trust her.

Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.

For four years, he had misunderstood everything.

The maid he had watched suspiciously.

The woman he had thought might be hiding something.

The stranger who had entered his son’s life.

She had been protecting Ethan.

Victoria had chosen her.

Then the lights went out.

Richard stood.

“They found us.”

Adrian heard footsteps.

Dozens of them.

The underground doors began shaking.

Richard grabbed a weapon.

“There’s another exit.”

They moved quickly.

Ethan held Adrian’s hand.

Clara followed.

They reached a tunnel.

Behind them, the door exploded open.

Men entered.

Richard shouted:

“Keep moving!”

They ran.

The tunnel led toward an old drainage system.

At the end was a steel ladder.

They climbed.

When Adrian reached the surface, police vehicles surrounded the area.

Federal agents had arrived.

The network had been exposed.

The evidence was secured.

The people responsible were arrested.

And the man Adrian had believed dead for twelve years had finally returned.

But Richard wasn’t finished.

He handed Adrian one final document.

“There’s one more name.”

Adrian looked.

The name was his own.

His blood ran cold.

“What does this mean?”

Richard shook his head.

“It means Victoria wasn’t investigating them.”

“She was investigating you.”

Adrian stared at him.

“Me?”

Richard nodded.

“She discovered something about your birth.”

Adrian couldn’t breathe.

“What?”

Richard whispered:

“You are not my biological son.”
