At Her Sister’s Wedding, My Best Friend Caught the Bouquet… Then Walked Straight to My Table!

Chapter 10

Daniel arrived alone.

He looked exhausted.

Claire met him outside the farmhouse.

“You knew?”

He shook his head.

“I swear I didn’t.”

“You married me because of my trust?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

“Because I love you.”

Claire stared.

Daniel stepped closer.

“I didn’t know my father had arranged any of this.”

“When did you find out?”

“Tonight.”

He pulled out his phone.

A message from Victor.

Bring Claire to the old church.

Claire’s face went pale.

Daniel continued:

“I didn’t come to take you.”

“Then why come?”

“To help you.”

Emily and Sophie joined them.

Ben stayed near the truck.

Daniel showed them another message.

A photograph.

Victor standing outside the old church.

Someone was tied to a chair beside him.

Emily recognized Robert.

Her uncle.

“He has your uncle.”

Emily immediately wanted to go.

Ben stopped her.

“You’re walking into a trap.”

“He’s my family.”

“I know.”

“We can’t leave him.”

Sophie looked at Ben.

“What do we do?”

Ben thought.

“Give Victor what he wants.”

Claire shook her head.

“The trust?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

“The original evidence.”

Emily understood.

“The recording.”

Ben nodded.

Victor didn’t know they had it.

They could trade it.

They drove to the church.

Victor waited inside.

Robert was tied to a chair.

Victor held a gun.

He smiled.

“You brought them.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Let him go.”

Victor looked at his son.

“You always were soft.”

“That’s enough.”

Victor laughed.

“No.”

He looked at Claire.

“Your mother ruined everything.”

Claire froze.

“My mother?”

“She was the one who refused to sign.”

“Sign what?”

“The trust.”

Emily stepped forward.

“You mean Claire?”

Victor nodded.

“She was supposed to become the legal heir.”

“But you couldn’t control her.”

“No.”

Victor looked at Daniel.

“So I arranged the wedding.”

Daniel went pale.

“You used me.”

“I used everyone.”

He looked at Robert.

“Your uncle signed the papers.”

Robert cried.

“I had no choice.”

Victor raised the gun.

Emily shouted:

“Stop!”

Victor looked at her.

“Where is the evidence?”

Emily held up the drive.

“Here.”

Victor smiled.

“Give it to me.”

She stepped forward.

Then stopped.

“First let my uncle go.”

Victor laughed.

“You learned from your father.”

“What does that mean?”

“He always negotiated.”

Emily realized something.

Her father had known Victor.

Her mother had known Victor.

Everyone had been trapped by him.

But Victor didn’t know one thing.

The files had already been uploaded.

Ben had sent copies to federal investigators.

Emily looked at Sophie.

Sophie nodded.

Victor noticed.

“What did you do?”

Emily smiled.

“Nothing.”

Victor’s face changed.

Sirens filled the air.

Federal agents surrounded the church.

Victor tried to run.

Daniel blocked him.

The gun fell.

Robert was released.

Victor was arrested.

For the first time in twenty years, the families could breathe.

But as Emily hugged her uncle, Robert whispered:

“There is one thing I never told your father.”

Emily looked at him.

“What?”

Robert glanced at Claire.

“Your mother never wanted the trust.”

Claire frowned.

“She wanted the money to go to someone else.”

“Who?”

Robert looked toward Sophie.

“Her.”

Everyone froze.
