A Single Dad Used an Old Pilot Call Sign—The CEO Suddenly Realized Who He Really Was
Chapter 12
That evening, Elizabeth found Marcus alone beside the hangar.
The runway lights were glowing.
“You were good today,” she said.
Marcus smiled.
“Noah was.”
“You were too.”
He looked at her.
“Thanks.”
She stood beside him.
“Do you remember the first time we met?”
Marcus laughed.
“You mean when you thought I was just a consultant?”
“Yes.”
“You terrified me.”
“I terrified you?”
“Absolutely.”
Elizabeth smiled.
“You hid your identity.”
“I didn’t hide anything.”
“You didn’t tell me you were Ghost Six.”
“You didn’t ask.”
She laughed.
Then her expression became serious.
“I’ve been thinking.”
“That’s dangerous.”
She nudged him.
“Be serious.”
Marcus smiled.
“I’m listening.”
“I spent years believing my father was gone.”
Marcus waited.
“When he came back, I thought everything would feel complete.”
“But?”
She looked at him.
“It didn’t.”
Marcus understood.
“Because some things had changed.”
“Yes.”
She looked toward the runway.
“And one of those things was you.”
Marcus’s heart beat faster.
Elizabeth continued.
“You walked into my life because of an interview.”
He smiled.
“And because your company needed a safety consultant.”
“Maybe.”
She turned toward him.
“But I think you were supposed to find us.”
Marcus looked at her.
“I don’t believe in that.”
“I do.”
She reached for his hand.
Marcus didn’t pull away.
“Elizabeth…”
“I know.”
She smiled.
“I’m not asking you to replace anything.”
Marcus looked at her.
“You’re not.”
“I’m asking if you want to see where this goes.”
Marcus smiled.
“Yes.”
She squeezed his hand.
For once, there was no emergency.
No investigation.
No threat.
No secret.
Just two people choosing each other.
From the hangar, Noah shouted:
“Dad!”
Marcus turned.
“What?”
“Grandpa says dinner!”
Thomas’s voice followed.
“And he says stop talking and come eat!”
Elizabeth laughed.
Marcus shook his head.
“Saved by dinner.”
They walked toward the hangar together.
Noah ran toward them.
Thomas stood by the door.
For a moment, Marcus stopped.
He looked at the three people waiting for him.
His son.
His closest friend.
And the woman who had become unexpectedly important to him.
Years earlier, he had thought his life was over.
He had lost his career.
Lost his wife.
Lost his friend.
Lost his sense of purpose.
But life had returned pieces of him one at a time.
Not the old life.
A new one.
A better one.
One built on truth.
And love.
And second chances.
Marcus smiled.
Then he walked inside.
