Two guns. One bounty. And a man who had been hunting the wrong enemy for fifteen years.
CHAPTER 11
Devil’s Pass was narrow.
Two cliffs.
One road.
No escape.
Harrow waited at the far end.
Twenty men surrounded him.
General William Harrow was older now.
But his uniform remained immaculate.
He looked at Scott.
“Colonel.”
Scott dismounted.
“General.”
Harrow smiled.
“I heard you were dead.”
“I heard you were honest.”
Harrow laughed.
“Still bitter.”
Scott walked forward.
“You killed my family.”
“I gave orders.”
“You murdered them.”
“I protected the operation.”
Scott’s hand moved toward his gun.
Harrow raised his own.
“Not yet.”
He looked at Thomas.
“You kept the ledger.”
Thomas nodded.
“For fifteen years.”
“Give it to me.”
“No.”
Harrow looked at Clay.
“And you.”
Clay said nothing.
“Your father was a traitor.”
Clay’s expression hardened.
“He was.”
“He died begging.”
Clay stepped forward.
“But he died trying to expose you.”
Harrow’s smile disappeared.
“You believe these men?”
Clay looked at Scott.
Then Thomas.
“Yes.”
Harrow shook his head.
“Then you’re a fool.”
Clay drew his revolver.
“No.”
He aimed.
“I’m just tired of men like you deciding who deserves the truth.”
Harrow shouted:
“Fire!”
The canyon exploded.
Bullets tore through the air.
Men fell.
Horses screamed.
Scott moved like a younger man.
Thomas fought beside him.
Clay advanced toward Harrow.
One by one, the soldiers fell.
Finally, only Harrow remained.
He stood in the dust.
Blood on his uniform.
Clay aimed at him.
Harrow smiled.
“You think this ends with me?”
Clay’s eyes narrowed.
“What does that mean?”
Harrow laughed.
“You have no idea how many people were involved.”
Thomas stepped forward.
“Enough.”
Harrow looked at him.
“You still don’t understand.”
Then he smiled.
“Thomas Adam was never the mastermind.”
Clay froze.
Scott turned.
Thomas’s face changed.
Harrow whispered:
“You were.”
