They Mocked His Old Car, His Clothes, His Pie… Then His Granddaughter Had Enough

Chapter 5

Walter’s investigation uncovered something bigger than Franklin’s scheme.

The money wasn’t simply being used to buy suppliers.

It was being moved through shell companies.

Those companies had one common connection.

Cynthia Reed.

Franklin’s wife.

Lily stared at the documents.

“So they were both involved.”

Walter nodded.

“But why?”

“To gain control of the whole supply chain.”

Jonathan joined them.

“There’s one more name.”

Walter looked up.

“Marcus Bell.”

Walter frowned.

“The produce vendor?”

Jonathan nodded.

“He owns a distribution company.”

Walter realized it.

The three people who mocked him every week were connected commercially.

Franklin.

Cynthia.

Marcus.

They were building an unofficial network around Hayes Regional Foods.

And Walter’s inheritance threatened all of it.

Lily laughed without humor.

“They’ve been laughing at you while trying to take your company.”

Walter shook his head.

“I don’t think they even knew.”

“Knew what?”

“That I was the owner.”

Lily stopped.

“You think they thought Grandma’s shares would go to someone else?”

“Yes.”

Jonathan nodded.

“That was the assumption.”

“Then why did Franklin mock me?”

“To keep you beneath his radar.”

Walter stared at the table.

Suddenly the insults felt less personal.

More strategic.

He decided to test Franklin.

He asked Jonathan to quietly send a small purchasing contract to Marcus’s distribution company.

The offer was generous.

Too generous.

Marcus accepted immediately.

Walter waited.

Within twenty-four hours, Marcus transferred confidential pricing information to another company.

Proof.

He had been leaking information.

Walter then tested Franklin.

A fake acquisition opportunity.

A supplier contract worth thirty million dollars.

Franklin moved immediately to secure it.

But he couldn’t do it without using company funds.

Walter had his proof.

He called an emergency board meeting.

Franklin arrived confident.

“So this is about my acquisitions?”

Walter sat at the head of the table.

“Yes.”

Franklin smiled.

“You don’t understand how complicated this company is.”

Walter looked at him.

“I understand enough.”

“You’ve been chairman for five minutes.”

“Actually, I became chairman six days ago.”

Franklin’s smile faded.

Walter placed the evidence on the table.

Shell companies.

Unauthorized transfers.

Leaked contracts.

Franklin looked at Cynthia.

She looked terrified.

Marcus stared at the floor.

Walter spoke calmly.

“You didn’t think I was capable of understanding any of this.”

Franklin shook his head.

“You’re being manipulated.”

“By whom?”

“You have no experience.”

Walter nodded.

“True.”

Then he leaned forward.

“But I know when someone is stealing.”

Silence.

Walter looked around the table.

“I also know what my wife built.”

Franklin stood.

“You can’t do this.”

“I already did.”

The board voted.

Franklin’s authority was suspended pending investigation.

Marcus lost his contracts.

Cynthia was removed from financial oversight.

But Walter wasn’t satisfied.

He had discovered something else.

The final document.

A hidden acquisition plan.

It showed that Franklin intended to buy dozens of family farms after forcing them into debt.

One of those farms belonged to George.

Walter stared at the page.

He remembered George’s words.

Rose had asked about his grandchildren.

Walter knew exactly what he would do next.
