They Humiliated Her Boyfriend — Not Knowing She Owned the Hotel
Chapter 11
Olivia refused to believe it.
Her mother had died when Olivia was nineteen.
She remembered her as kind.
Gentle.
Loving.
The document claimed otherwise.
Ethan sat beside Olivia in the hotel’s private office.
She stared at the file.
“It has to be fake.”
James agreed.
“Maybe.”
“But it has her signature.”
“Signatures can be forged.”
Ethan looked at the date.
“What happened that year?”
Olivia thought.
“My father and Michael had a business dispute.”
“About what?”
“Investment properties.”
“Were you involved?”
“No.”
“Your mother?”
“She handled family finances.”
James checked the old banking records.
“There’s something strange.”
“What?”
“Your mother didn’t receive money from Michael.”
“Then?”
“She sent money to him.”
Olivia went silent.
“How much?”
“Enough to buy the marina.”
Ethan frowned.
“Why?”
They searched deeper.
A hidden message appeared in one of the archived emails.
It contained only a sentence:
I did what you asked. Keep my children safe.
Olivia stared.
“Children?”
“My brother and me.”
James said nothing.
Then another file appeared.
It showed a medical report.
The report belonged to Olivia’s mother.
The diagnosis was terminal cancer.
Olivia’s breath caught.
She had never known.
“She was sick.”
Ethan took her hand.
“She hid it.”
Another document explained why.
Michael had threatened to take control of the family businesses if Olivia’s mother refused to cooperate.
She made a deal.
She gave him limited access.
In return, he would leave the children alone.
But Michael had betrayed her.
Her mother had spent the final years of her life trying to undo the damage.
That explained the transfers.
Not greed.
Protection.
Olivia cried silently.
“All these years…”
Ethan pulled her close.
“She was trying to save you.”
The final piece of evidence came from her father.
He sent a video recording.
His voice was weak.
“Olivia, I should have told you sooner.”
He explained everything.
Her mother had infiltrated Michael’s network.
She secretly collected evidence.
But before she could expose him, she became too ill.
Her father continued the investigation.
Then Michael discovered what they were doing.
That was when the threats began.
Her father had eventually staged Michael’s death with the help of investigators.
But the operation failed.
Michael disappeared.
And continued building the network.
Olivia finally understood why her father had always been afraid.
He hadn’t been weak.
He had been protecting his children.
The mystery was nearly solved.
But one person remained.
Victoria.
She was still missing.
Two days later, police found her at a small airport.
She was trying to leave the country.
During questioning, she confessed.
But she also made one claim.
“I never wanted Olivia harmed.”
Olivia stared through the glass.
“Then why did you humiliate Ethan?”
Victoria looked ashamed.
“Because I believed he was using you.”
“You lied.”
“Yes.”
“You framed him.”
“Yes.”
“You destroyed his reputation.”
Victoria lowered her head.
“I was wrong.”
Ethan watched silently.
Victoria continued.
“You don’t understand what Michael did.”
Olivia asked, “What?”
“He told me if I refused to cooperate, my son would die.”
The room went quiet.
Another person trapped.
Another victim.
Another layer of the same nightmare.
Olivia walked away.
Outside, Ethan waited.
She looked exhausted.
“It’s finally ending.”
Ethan nodded.
“Not yet.”
She looked at him.
“What do you mean?”
He held up a small envelope.
“James found this in Michael’s office.”
Inside was a single photograph.
It showed Olivia’s father shaking hands with an unidentified man.
On the back was a date.
Twenty years ago.
And a message:
THE ORIGINAL DEAL.
