THE LIFE ETHAN COLE NEVER EXPECTED
Chapter 8
Greyhaven celebrated like it had been waiting for the news.
Walter was the first to hear.
Then June’s coworkers.
Then the fishermen.
Then the entire town.
Ethan had no idea how news traveled so quickly.
By the next morning, three people had congratulated him before breakfast.
Walter shook his hand.
“About time.”
Ethan laughed.
“You knew?”
“I’ve known for years.”
June looked at him.
“Years?”
Walter smiled.
“You two were the only ones who didn’t know.”
The wedding was planned for the following spring.
They didn’t want anything extravagant.
Neither did the town.
Greyhaven had a way of turning simple things into celebrations.
People volunteered.
Someone built the wooden arch.
Someone decorated the community center.
June’s coworkers prepared food.
Walter repaired old chairs.
Lily helped choose flowers.
Ethan tried to help.
He was removed from decoration duty after hanging lights in the wrong place three times.
The wedding would take place outside the town hall.
Under the same sky Ethan had seen when he first arrived.
The same streets.
The same harbor.
The same people.
Only Ethan was different.
He wasn’t standing outside anymore.
He was at the center of the community he had once been afraid to call home.
