June walked toward the wooden arch.
The music changed.
Everyone stood.
Ethan looked up.
For a moment, everything else disappeared.
He saw only her.
She wore a simple white dress.
Nothing extravagant.
Her hair moved slightly in the breeze.
She smiled when their eyes met.
Ethan forgot about the people.
Forgot about the music.
Forgot about everything.
June reached him.
Lily stood beside them.
She looked nervous too.
The ceremony began.
The words were simple.
The promises were not.
Ethan spoke first.
“I don’t know what tomorrow will bring.”
His voice was steady.
“But I know where I want to be.”
He looked at June.
“Here.”
June smiled through tears.
She took his hands.
“I don’t need you to promise me that life will always be easy.”
She squeezed his fingers.
“I only need you to promise that when it isn’t, you won’t run.”
Ethan’s eyes softened.
“I promise.”
They exchanged rings.
Then the officiant smiled.
“You may kiss.”
Ethan leaned toward June.
The town erupted.
Cheers filled the street.
Walter shouted louder than anyone.
Lily covered her ears.
June laughed against Ethan’s shoulder.
And Ethan laughed too.
The sound carried across Greyhaven.
The stranger had finally become a husband.
