Kane smiled.
“Mr. Carter.”

“You remember me.”

“You fired me.”
Kane laughed.
“I don’t think that’s accurate.”
“You signed the termination order.”
Kane’s smile faded.

Sophia stepped between them.
“My father hired you.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I’ve advised the family for years.”
Ethan handed Sophia the document.
She showed Kane.

Kane looked around.
“Be careful.”
Sophia smiled.
“You should be.”

“Then find out.”

“No.”
“I have to.”
“No.”

She looked at him.

“And I was right.”
Ethan shook his head.
“This time I’m coming.”
Sophia smiled.

“You’re persistent,” he said.
Sophia answered,
“You’re careless.”

“No.”

“Then you’ll have plenty of people to replace after the arrests.”
His expression hardened.
“You don’t understand how business works.”
“I understand how fear works.”
Kane turned toward Ethan.
“You should have taken the settlement years ago.”
“I don’t sell my silence.”
“You could have been rich.”
“I wanted my name clean.”
Kane laughed.
“Your name doesn’t matter.”
Ethan looked at him.
“Apparently it mattered enough for you to destroy my career.”
Kane walked closer.
“Your report threatened everything.”
“Because it was true.”
Kane stared at Sophia.
“Your father would have lost everything.”
“He already lost my trust.”
Kane smiled.
“Then ask him where the money went.”
Sophia frowned.
“What money?”
“Gerald didn’t steal alone.”
Kane pulled out a file.
“Charles moved the money.”
Sophia looked at her father.
Charles wasn’t there.
She realized Kane was manipulating her.
“You’re lying.”
“Ask him.”
Ethan stepped forward.
“You’re finished.”
Kane smiled.
“Perhaps.”
Then the elevator doors opened.
Federal agents entered.
Kane’s smile disappeared.
Rebecca held up an arrest warrant.
“Robert Kane, you’re under arrest.”
Kane looked at Ethan.
“How?”
Ethan smiled.
“The microphone.”
Kane froze.
Sophia had been recording the entire conversation.
Kane looked at her.

He was handcuffed.
As he was taken away, he whispered,

Sophia watched him disappear.

“Do you believe him?”
Ethan shook his head.

They walked out together.
