The Billionaire’s Daughter Fell for Her Chauffeur — Never Knowing He Was Working Undercover
Chapter 14
Ethan and Madeline returned to the diner one final time before the restaurant closed.
They sat at their old table.
Pancakes.
Coffee.
The same booth.
The place looked smaller.
Madeline smiled.
“I can’t believe this is where we started.”
“It was good food.”
“It was terrible.”
“You ate everything.”
“I was hungry.”
They laughed.
Then she became quiet.
“Do you remember what I asked you?”
“What?”
“Whether you’d ever wished you were born rich.”
He smiled.
“Yes.”
“What did you say?”
“That I’d probably be afraid of losing it.”
She looked at him.
“Were you right?”
“About you?”
“Yes.”
He nodded.
“You were afraid.”
“Very.”
“Are you now?”
She thought.
“No.”
“Why?”
She took his hand.
“Because I learned that losing control isn’t the same as losing everything.”
He smiled.
“Good.”
She leaned closer.
“And because I know who will be there.”
He kissed her.
The waiter brought the check.
Madeline laughed.
“You pay.”
Ethan stared.
“Why?”
“Because you’re the husband.”
He laughed.
“Fine.”
They left the diner holding hands.
The billionaire’s daughter and the undercover chauffeur.
Two people who had begun with a lie.
But built their marriage on truth.
