Single Dad Turned Down His CEO Boss Twice—Then She Proposed in Front of the Board

Chapter 11

Martin Sterling denied everything.

He hired the best lawyers in New York.

He called the evidence forged.

He accused Victoria of trying to destroy her own family.

The board demanded proof.

The media followed every move.

Daniel became a target.

His phone was hacked.

His financial accounts were investigated.

His neighbors were questioned.

One afternoon, Noah’s school called.

Daniel rushed there.

His son was sitting in the principal’s office.

A stranger had tried to pick him up.

The school stopped him before he reached the child.

Daniel’s blood turned cold.

Victoria arrived minutes later.

She immediately ordered the company’s security team to protect Noah.

Daniel finally broke.

“This has gone too far.”

Victoria looked at him.

“I know.”

“No more.”

“I agree.”

“I don’t want Noah living like this.”

“He won’t.”

Daniel looked at her.

“You keep saying that.”

“Because I mean it.”

“What if you can’t protect us?”

Victoria stepped closer.

“Then I’ll find someone who can.”

“That isn’t an answer.”

“It is the only one I have.”

Daniel shook his head.

Then he noticed something on the security report.

The attempted pickup had been authorized using an old Sterling employee ID.

Someone inside the company was still helping Martin.

They traced the ID.

It belonged to a former executive named Alan Pierce.

Alan had disappeared months earlier.

He was found two days later.

And he confessed.

Martin had paid him to monitor Daniel.

But Alan also revealed something worse.

Martin planned to move money out of Sterling and leave the country.

Victoria immediately contacted federal investigators.

An operation was arranged.

Martin was arrested at the airport.

The evidence was undeniable.

For the first time, the Sterling family secret was truly exposed.

But the victory felt strangely empty.

That night, Daniel sat alone in his kitchen.

Victoria walked in.

“Noah is asleep.”

Daniel nodded.

She sat across from him.

“It’s over.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Is it?”

“For him, yes.”

“And for us?”

She frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Daniel took a long breath.

“I’ve spent months trying to keep work and family separate.”

Victoria remained silent.

“I said no to you because I was afraid.”

“Afraid of me?”

“No.”

He looked into her eyes.

“Afraid of needing you.”

Victoria’s expression softened.

Daniel continued.

“I know how dangerous it is to build your life around someone.”

She understood.

His wife had died.

He had learned that love could disappear without warning.

Victoria reached across the table.

“You don’t have to promise forever.”

Daniel looked at her hand.

“Neither do you.”

She smiled.

“Then what can you promise?”

Daniel took her hand.

“That I won’t run.”

Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.

It wasn’t a proposal.

It wasn’t a declaration.

But it was enough.

For the first time, they weren’t fighting what they felt.

They were choosing it.

Together.
