She Was Just a Beautiful Food Vendor… Until a Rich Businessman Set His Eyes on Her—And This Happened

Chapter 6

Alexander returned to his company to discover that Victor had orchestrated a corporate coup.

Three board members had secretly sold their voting shares.

Victor now controlled enough votes to challenge Alexander’s position.

The reason became clear quickly.

Victor wanted the Willow Street properties.

And Maya’s food cart stood directly in the center of his plans.

He wanted to demolish the entire block.

Luxury towers would replace the old buildings.

Maya would lose everything.

Alexander refused.

The board demanded that he cooperate.

He didn’t.

Instead, he announced that he would fight.

Maya wanted to help.

Alexander told her to stay away.

“No.”

“Maya.”

“You don’t get to decide that for me.”

“This is dangerous.”

“So is everything you’ve been doing.”

He looked at her.

She continued.

“You came into my life.”

“You investigated my father’s past.”

“You stood beside me when my cart was destroyed.”

“You don’t get to suddenly tell me to disappear because things became difficult.”

Alexander smiled.

“You really don’t listen.”

“No.”

“I noticed.”

They hugged.

But the situation worsened.

Victor leaked documents accusing Alexander of financial misconduct.

News outlets began reporting that the CEO of Reed Hospitality Group was under investigation.

Investors panicked.

Stock prices fell.

Maya watched the reports in horror.

Then she realized something.

Victor wasn’t trying to destroy Alexander.

He was trying to make him desperate enough to sell.

The next morning, Maya found something in her father’s old records.

A second notebook.

She had overlooked it because it was hidden beneath the lining of a wooden box.

Inside were details of meetings Thomas had attended before his eviction.

One entry caught her attention.

Victor says the land is worth ten times what they paid.

Another:

Alexander doesn’t know.

Maya stared at the sentence.

Her heart sank.

Her father had known Alexander wasn’t involved.

She called him immediately.

“Alexander.”

“What happened?”

“I found something.”

She read the entries to him.

There was silence.

Then Alexander said:

“Your father knew I didn’t know.”

“Yes.”

“That matters.”

“How?”

“It proves Victor acted without my knowledge.”

“But will anyone believe us?”

Alexander paused.

“Maybe not.”

Maya looked at the notebook.

“Then we’ll make them.”

She contacted Daniel.

Together, they began gathering evidence.

Old bank records.

Property documents.

Emails.

Inspection reports.

Payment records.

Everything pointed toward Victor.

But they needed one thing.

A witness.

Someone who had been there.

Someone who knew exactly what Victor had ordered.

Then Maya remembered the inspector’s name.

The man who had supposedly died two days after signing the inspection report.

She searched the internet.

And discovered something shocking.

The inspector hadn’t died.

He had moved to another state.

He was alive.
