She Was Just a Beautiful Food Vendor… Until a Rich Businessman Set His Eyes on Her—And This Happened
Chapter 7
They found him living in Oregon.
His name was Samuel Brooks.
He was seventy-three.
When Alexander called, Samuel initially refused to speak.
But when Maya mentioned her father’s name, he agreed to meet.
They flew there the next morning.
Samuel lived alone in a small house surrounded by pine trees.
When he opened the door and saw Maya, his expression changed.
“You look like your father.”
Maya swallowed.
“You knew him?”
“Yes.”
“What happened?”
Samuel looked at Alexander.
“You’re Reed.”
Alexander nodded.
Samuel sighed.
“I’ve been waiting twenty years for someone to ask.”
He invited them inside.
For two hours, he explained everything.
Victor had approached him.
He wanted a false safety inspection.
Samuel refused.
Victor threatened him.
Then he offered money.
Samuel still refused.
Finally, Victor threatened his family.
Samuel signed the report.
The next day, he disappeared.
“He told everyone I had died,” Samuel said.
“Why?”
“Because dead men can’t testify.”
Maya felt sick.
“Did my father know?”
“Yes.”
“What did he do?”
“He confronted Victor.”
“And Alexander?”
Samuel shook his head.
“Your father told me Alexander knew nothing.”
Maya closed her eyes.
She had the confirmation.
The truth had been buried for years.
But there was more.
Samuel had kept copies of everything.
The original inspection report.
Letters from Victor.
Bank transfers.
And one recording.
Victor’s voice.
Giving the order.
Alexander listened to the recording twice.
Then he looked at Maya.
“This ends now.”
They returned to the city.
Victor had scheduled a board meeting.
He planned to remove Alexander as CEO.
But Alexander arrived with Maya.
And Samuel.
Victor’s confidence disappeared.
“What is he doing here?”
Alexander placed the recording on the table.
“Tell them.”
Victor stared at Samuel.
“You’ve been dead for twenty years.”
Samuel smiled.
“Apparently not.”
The room became silent.
Alexander played the recording.
Victor’s voice filled the room.
Clear.
Undeniable.
The board members stared at each other.
Victor tried to explain.
“It’s fake.”
Samuel stepped forward.
“I recorded it.”
Victor looked at him.
“You don’t understand.”
“I understand perfectly.”
Maya placed the old inspection report on the table.
Then the payment records.
Then her father’s notebook.
One by one, the evidence appeared.
Victor’s face changed.
For years, he had believed the truth was buried forever.
He had been wrong.
The board voted.
Victor was removed.
The authorities were contacted.
Alexander retained control of the company.
But he didn’t celebrate.
He looked at Maya.
“What do you want to do now?”
Maya looked at the documents.
Then at him.
“I want my father’s restaurant back.”
Alexander smiled.
“Then let’s build it.”
