Mara ran to Jonathan’s office.
She was still dressed as Miles.
“There’s something you need to know.”
Jonathan looked up.
“What?”
“Vivian is working with Frost.”
He stared.
“What are you talking about?”
“They’re stealing the Autumn Collection.”
Jonathan’s expression hardened.
“Enough.”
“It’s true.”
“Miles.”
Jonathan stood.
“You are talented.”
“But?”
“But you’re young.”
Mara felt her stomach drop.
“You think I’m lying.”
Jonathan looked toward the door.
Vivian entered.
“What happened?”
Jonathan pointed toward Miles.
“He says you and Frost are stealing from me.”
Vivian looked horrified.
Then she began to cry.
“I knew this would happen.”
Mara froze.
“What?”
Vivian turned to Jonathan.
“After Mara was fired, I warned you.”
Jonathan looked at her.
“He isn’t Mara.”
Vivian shook her head.
“No.”
She pulled out an envelope.
Inside were emails.
Fake emails.
All showing Miles communicating with Frost.
Jonathan looked devastated.
Security entered.
Mara backed away.
“You can’t believe this.”
Jonathan couldn’t meet her eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
Those words broke her.
Mara ran.
Outside, she removed the wig.
Tears streamed down her face.
Ethan found her.
“Mara.”
She turned.
“They won.”
“No.”
“They’ve destroyed everything.”
“No.”
He grabbed her shoulders.
“They haven’t.”
She looked at him.
“They have my father.”
Ethan shook his head.
“Then we’ll get him back.”
Mara stared at him.
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
He smiled.
“But I know someone who does.”
Maurice stepped out from behind him.
He held up a USB drive.
“I’ve been stealing from the thieves.”
Mara blinked.
“What?”
Maurice smiled.
“I’ve been stealing their evidence.”
For the first time that night, Mara laughed.
They had one chance.
But Vivian was already moving faster.
The next morning, Jonathan announced he was considering selling Bennett House to Victor Frost.
