“Pack Your Things,” the Mafia Boss Snarled—By Midnight, His Wife Had Vanished Without a Trace
Chapter 11
Victor moved quickly.
Within hours, newspapers began reporting that Matteo Belladonna had been connected to a massive financial conspiracy.
Photographs appeared.
Documents were leaked.
Witnesses accused him.
The city turned against him.
Matteo’s accounts were frozen.
Several businesses were seized.
Police surrounded the mansion.
Elena watched from the window.
“They’re framing you.”
“Yes.”
“Can they prove it?”
“Not if we release the real evidence first.”
But there was a problem.
The evidence was incomplete.
The final ledger page was missing.
Without it, Victor could claim the documents were fabricated.
Then Gabriel appeared.
He entered the mansion alone.
Matteo raised his weapon.
Elena stopped him.
“Wait.”
Gabriel looked exhausted.
“I want out.”
Matteo stared.
“You kidnapped my wife.”
“I know.”
“You threatened her.”
“I know.”
“You nearly got her killed.”
Gabriel lowered his head.
“I was wrong.”
Matteo didn’t lower the weapon.
“Why should I believe you?”
“Because Victor killed my brother.”
Silence.
Gabriel placed a flash drive on the table.
“He kept the final ledger page.”
“Where?”
“His private club.”
Matteo looked at Lucio.
“Get the car.”
Gabriel stopped him.
“There are twenty armed men there.”
Matteo smiled.
“I don’t need twenty.”
Elena stepped forward.
“You’re not going without me.”
“No.”
“You promised.”
Matteo looked at her.
She held up the wedding ring.
“I know where the vault is.”
He understood.
She wasn’t asking permission.
She was choosing to stand beside him.
They entered Victor’s club at midnight.
Not through the front.
Through the underground service tunnel.
Elena carried the camera.
Matteo carried the evidence case.
Gabriel led them.
They reached Victor’s office.
The final ledger page sat inside a safe.
Elena entered the code.
The safe opened.
But Victor was already there.
He stood in the doorway applauding.
“Beautiful.”
Matteo turned.
Victor raised a gun.
“You’ve saved me the trouble.”
