My Family Used Me to Settle Their Debt—I Never Expected the Mafia Boss to Open His Arms

Chapter 12

Three months later, the man came.

His name was Adrian Voss.

Gabriel’s younger brother.

He had stayed hidden while Victor was arrested.

Now he wanted revenge.

But he didn’t attack Luca.

He attacked Elena’s foundation.

First, a donor withdrew.

Then another.

A legal complaint appeared.

A witness disappeared.

A building was set on fire.

Elena understood immediately.

Someone was targeting everything she had built.

Luca wanted to respond with force.

Elena stopped him.

“No.”

“This is my world.”

“It became mine too.”

“I can handle him.”

“I know.”

She looked at him.

“But I want to handle him differently.”

Adrian Voss expected violence.

He didn’t expect evidence.

Elena gathered every financial record.

Every hidden account.

Every property transfer.

Every connection.

She worked with investigators.

She exposed Adrian’s network publicly.

One by one, his allies abandoned him.

Finally, he made a mistake.

He called Elena.

“You think you’ve won?”

She answered calmly.

“I think you are tired.”

“I can destroy your life.”

“No.”

“How can you be sure?”

“Because I’m no longer alone.”

Silence.

Adrian laughed.

“Luca?”

“Everyone.”

The call ended.

Two days later, Adrian was arrested.

The foundation survived.

The fire-damaged building was rebuilt.

A new shelter opened there.

Elena named it after her mother.

For the first time, her mother’s name was spoken publicly for something good.

Luca attended the opening.

He stood quietly while Elena spoke.

“My family taught me that fear can control people.”

She looked around.

“But they also taught me that one person’s courage can break that control.”

She paused.

“I was once used as payment for a debt.”

People listened.

“I thought that meant I had no value.”

She looked at Luca.

“Then someone opened his home to me.”

Luca smiled.

“He didn’t ask for anything.”

“He didn’t demand obedience.”

“He didn’t treat me like property.”

“He gave me a choice.”

Her voice softened.

“Sometimes the greatest form of love is not protecting someone by controlling their life.”

She looked at the women in the audience.

“It’s protecting their right to choose it.”

The audience applauded.

Afterward, Luca found her outside.

“You were incredible.”

“Thank you.”

“You didn’t mention the mafia.”

She laughed.

“Trying to improve my image.”

“Good luck.”

They walked together.

Then Luca stopped.

“Elena.”

“Yes?”

He knelt.

She stared.

“You said not yet.”

“I changed my mind.”

Her eyes widened.

He held out the silver ring.

“No family contracts.”

“No trusts.”

“No debts.”

“No obligations.”

“Just me asking you.”

Elena began to cry.

“Will you marry me?”

She laughed through her tears.

“You really waited until after my speech?”

“I wanted you to remember the question.”

“What question?”

“What do you want?”

She looked at him.

“You.”

He smiled.

“Yes?”

“Yes.”

He placed the ring on her finger.

They kissed.

From a distance, Rafael shouted:

“Finally!”

Everyone laughed.

Elena wiped her eyes.

“I hate him.”

Luca smiled.

“He’s been waiting longer than I have.”

That night, Elena called her father.

“Dad?”

“Yes?”

“I have something to tell you.”

“What?”

“I’m getting married.”

Silence.

“To Luca?”

“Yes.”

Her father started crying.

“Are you happy?”

Elena looked at the ring.

“Yes.”

“Then I’m happy.”

She smiled.

For the first time in years, she believed him.
