Gray looked at the iron box.

“Give it to me.”

Gray smiled.

“You have no understanding of how much power is behind this.”

Margaret stepped forward.

Gray stared at her.

The sheriff who had taken bribes lost his office.

The merchants who had participated were forced to repay what they had stolen.

But the most surprising thing happened afterward.

Not the kind Bell had accumulated through fear.

A legitimate inheritance from Edmund’s original mills, land, and shipping interests.

Margaret refused to keep it all.

Instead, she divided much of it among the families who had suffered.

Samuel watched her sign the final document.

“You could have kept everything.”

Margaret looked at Clara.

“What good would wealth be if I used it to become the kind of person my father fought against?”

Eleanor smiled.
