I rescued an abandoned dog off the street, and he ended up saving my life
CHAPTER 11
The investigation lasted months.
Ethan returned to his garage.
Lily started over.
Scout became famous around town.
People joked that he was the smartest member of the family.
Ethan agreed.
Then, one morning, Scout disappeared.
The gate was broken.
His collar lay outside.
Ethan panicked.
He searched everywhere.
Nothing.
Then he found a note.
COME ALONE.
Ethan knew exactly who had taken him.
Richard Vale had escaped custody.
He wanted revenge.
Ethan drove to an abandoned warehouse.
Scout was inside.
Tied but unharmed.
Richard stood behind him.
“You cost me everything.”
Ethan raised his hands.
“You lost it yourself.”
Richard laughed.
“You think the dog belongs to you?”
Ethan looked at Scout.
“No.”
Richard frowned.
“Then what?”
Ethan smiled.
“He belongs wherever he chooses.”
Scout suddenly barked.
The rope around his neck had loosened.
He lunged.
Ethan moved.
A shot rang out.
Richard fell.
Police arrived seconds later.
It was over.
Finally.
But as Ethan untied Scout, the dog licked his face.
Ethan laughed through tears.
“You really are impossible.”
Scout wagged his tail.
