I Decided to Surprise My Wife at the Airport Pickup — Then She Walked Out Holding Another Man’s Hand
Chapter 8
Ethan stepped backward.
“No.”
His mother didn’t move.
“Olivia was recruited three years ago.”
“That’s impossible.”
“She wasn’t investigating the network.”
“She was part of it.”
Ethan looked at Olivia.
She was crying.
“Ethan…”
“Don’t.”
Nathan stepped between them.
“Let her explain.”
Ethan shook his head.
“You knew.”
Nathan nodded.
“I suspected.”
Olivia finally spoke.
“I didn’t choose this.”
Ethan laughed bitterly.
“You lied to me for three years.”
“I was protecting you.”
“You used me.”
“No.”
“You brought another man to the airport.”
“I had to.”
“Why?”
“To make the people watching us believe you didn’t know.”
Ethan stared.
Olivia walked closer.
“I knew someone was using your name.”
“I knew they were planning to kill you.”
“So I stayed close.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because the last person who tried to expose them was Marcus.”
She began crying.
“He died because he trusted me.”
Ethan’s anger weakened.
His mother stepped forward.
“Olivia saved my life.”
Ethan looked at her.
“What?”
“She found me six months ago.”
“She helped me disappear.”
Ethan didn’t know what to believe.
Then Nathan spoke.
“There is still one problem.”
“What?”
“The money.”
He showed Ethan the documents.
The network wasn’t stealing millions.
It was moving billions.
Money connected to corrupt officials, corporations, and organized crime.
And Ethan’s father’s hidden records could expose all of them.
Ethan understood.
“They’re coming for the files.”
“Yes.”
His mother looked at him.
“Your father hid the master ledger.”
“Where?”
She whispered:
“In the one place he knew nobody would search.”
Ethan frowned.
“Where?”
She looked at him.
“Your wedding.”
