I Decided to Surprise My Wife at the Airport Pickup — Then She Walked Out Holding Another Man’s Hand

Chapter 4

The first victim had been a financial auditor.

The second had been a federal investigator.

The third had been Marcus Hale.

All three had investigated the same financial network.

And all three had died within eighteen months.

Nathan believed someone was eliminating witnesses.

Ethan couldn’t understand why his name had been connected to the investigation.

Until Olivia showed him another document.

His signature.

On a contract he had never seen.

The signature looked perfect.

Almost too perfect.

Ethan stared at it.

“That’s not mine.”

“I know.”

“Then someone forged it.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Olivia looked at him.

“To make you the next suspect.”

A knock came at the front door.

They both froze.

Nathan stood outside.

Ethan opened the door.

Nathan stepped inside.

“We need to leave.”

Ethan frowned.

“Why?”

“Because they know Olivia is home.”

“Who?”

Nathan looked at the windows.

“The people who killed Marcus.”

A car drove slowly past the house.

Nathan immediately moved away from the window.

“Get your wife.”

Ethan stared.

“You don’t order me around in my own house.”

Nathan looked directly at him.

“Then you’re going to get her killed.”

The words silenced Ethan.

They left through the garage.

Nathan drove.

Ethan sat beside Olivia in the back seat.

After twenty minutes, they reached a small motel outside Fort Worth.

Nathan locked the door.

“Your phone.”

Olivia handed it over.

Ethan refused.

“Why?”

“Because if someone is tracking us, your phone could be compromised.”

Nathan looked at Ethan.

“You still don’t trust me.”

“No.”

“Good.”

Ethan frowned.

“Why good?”

“Because you shouldn’t.”

Nathan placed the phones inside a metal container.

Then he turned to Olivia.

“Tell him everything.”

She looked at Ethan.

“I don’t know if I can.”

Nathan’s expression hardened.

“If you don’t, he dies.”

Ethan stared at him.

“What?”

Nathan reached into his bag.

He placed a photograph on the table.

Ethan recognized the house.

His house.

The picture had been taken from across the street.

On the back was written:
