I Accidentally Got Auctioned for a Date… My Best Friend Bid $5,000 to Win Me
Chapter 8
The next week was chaos.
Investigators questioned Lucas.
Financial regulators opened a case against Hale.
Carter Holdings survived.
But Noah and Mia barely slept.
One night, they sat together on the balcony.
Mia looked at him.
“Do you regret bidding?”
Noah laughed.
“Five thousand dollars?”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Even now?”
“Especially now.”
She smiled.
“I still can’t believe you did it.”
“I couldn’t stand the thought of some random guy taking you out.”
“You were jealous.”
“Very.”
She laughed.
“That’s adorable.”
“Don’t call it adorable.”
“Jealous.”
“Maybe.”
She rested her head on his shoulder.
“I wish you’d told me years ago.”
“So do I.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“Because I thought you only saw me as your friend.”
She looked up.
“Maybe I did.”
“And now?”
Mia smiled.
“Now I see you as the idiot who spent five thousand dollars on a date.”
He laughed.
Then she kissed him.
Their relationship became official.
But not everyone was happy.
Mia’s mother had concerns.
“You’ve known him too long.”
“That’s the point.”
“What if it doesn’t work?”
Mia smiled.
“Then I’ll lose a boyfriend.”
Her mother frowned.
“And your best friend.”
Mia thought about it.
“No.”
She knew better.
Noah wasn’t simply her boyfriend.
He was the person who had stayed when everyone else left.
He was the person who knew her worst days and still answered the phone.
Maybe love hadn’t arrived suddenly.
Maybe it had been there all along.
Waiting for them to notice.
