Every Tutor Quit on the Billionaire’s Daughter — Until a Single Dad With a Secret Military Past Changed Her Forever
Chapter 5
Amelia hated the new security restrictions.
“No.”
Ethan stood beside the car.
“Yes.”
“You don’t control me.”
“Correct.”
“Then why are you telling me?”
“Because someone has been following you.”
She crossed her arms.
“I can take care of myself.”
“Maybe.”
He looked at her.
“But you don’t know what you’re looking for.”
She stared at him.
“You’re making me nervous.”
“Good.”
“Why good?”
“Because awareness keeps people alive.”
She froze.
“How would you know?”
Ethan didn’t answer.
Instead, he checked the street.
“Get in the car.”
She obeyed.
For the first time, Amelia listened without arguing.
That evening, someone attempted to enter the mansion through the rear garden.
Security caught him.
He fled.
Ethan examined the fence.
The intruder had disabled one camera.
He looked at the access point.
“Professional.”
Victor frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“Someone knew your system.”
“Inside?”
“Probably.”
Amelia overheard.
She became pale.
“Who would do this?”
Ethan looked at her.
“That’s what we’re going to find out.”
She followed him.
“You’re not going to leave, right?”
He looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because everyone else does.”
The sentence stopped him.
He understood.
Her behavior wasn’t about arrogance.
It was fear.
Everyone who came into her life had eventually disappeared.
Tutors.
Friends.
Sometimes family members.
She pushed first because she thought it hurt less.
Ethan crouched.
“I’m not leaving because you’re difficult.”
She looked at him.
“But you’re my employee.”
He smiled.
“Exactly.”
She laughed.
The next day, Ethan reviewed security footage.
The intruder had never entered the house.
He had only photographed the windows.
One image showed Amelia at her desk.
Another showed Lily visiting.
Ethan’s expression hardened.
Now Lily was involved.
He contacted his old military network.
He didn’t tell Victor everything.
But he asked a former colleague to run a discreet background check on everyone with access to the mansion.
The results arrived that night.
One name appeared repeatedly.
The family driver.
Ethan had never trusted him.
The man had worked for Victor for eleven years.
He also had unexplained financial connections to a private security contractor.
Ethan showed Victor.
Victor stared.
“Impossible.”
“No.”
“He saved Amelia’s life once.”
“Maybe.”
Ethan remained calm.
“But loyalty isn’t proven by history.”
Victor looked at him.
“What do we do?”
“We wait.”
“Why?”
“Because if he’s working for someone, we don’t want him to know we’re watching.”
Victor nodded.
Ethan returned to Amelia’s room.
She was studying.
He stood in the doorway.
“Can I come in?”
She smiled.
“You’re my tutor.”
“That’s not an answer.”
She laughed.
“Come in.”
He sat down.
She looked at him.
“Something happened.”
Ethan nodded.
“Yes.”
“Is it bad?”
“Maybe.”
“Are you scared?”
Ethan looked at her.
“For you?”
“Yes.”
He answered honestly.
“Yes.”
For some reason, that made her feel safer.
