Billionaire Pretended to Be Poor to Test His Fiancée – What Happened Next Shocked Everyone!

Chapter 11

Their first real date was nothing extraordinary.

Ethan could have rented a restaurant.

Closed an entire rooftop.

Flown Lily to Paris.

Instead, he took her to a small bookstore in Brooklyn.

Lily looked at him.

“This is your idea of billionaire dating?”

“I’ve been told I need to improve.”

She smiled.

“By who?”

“My waitress.”

“I was your friend.”

“You were.”

“And now?”

Ethan looked at her.

“Hopefully more.”

Lily tried not to smile.

They spent the afternoon walking through the city.

No photographers.

No assistants.

No security visible nearby, though Ethan had quietly arranged for it.

Lily bought a used novel.

Ethan bought nothing.

“You own half of Manhattan, but you won’t buy a book?”

“I already have too many.”

She looked at him.

“That’s surprisingly normal.”

“I have layers.”

“Most of them are annoying.”

Ethan laughed.

That night, they talked about their childhoods.

Lily grew up in Queens.

Her mother died when she was sixteen.

Her father had worked construction.

She had wanted to study literature but left college when medical bills became overwhelming.

Ethan listened.

“You ever regret it?”

“Sometimes.”

“What would you study now?”

She looked at him.

“Why?”

“Curious.”

“Creative writing.”

Ethan smiled.

“You should.”

“With what money?”

He immediately understood.

Wrong question.

He raised both hands.

“Sorry.”

Lily laughed.

“You’re learning.”

Over the next months, their relationship grew slowly.

Ethan never offered to pay Lily’s debts.

Not because he didn’t want to help.

Because she had asked him not to.

Instead, when she mentioned wanting to return to school, he asked only one question.

“Do you want to?”

“Yes.”

So she applied.

And when she was accepted, Ethan celebrated by bringing her flowers.

Nothing more.

Lily looked at them.

“You realize you could have bought me a university.”

“I know.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“Because you wanted to earn this yourself.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

That was the moment Lily began to understand.

Ethan’s money wasn’t the problem.

The question was what he did with it.

And slowly, Ethan began changing too.

He created a scholarship program for working adults returning to school.

Not in Lily’s name.

She refused.

So he named it after his mother.

When Lily found out, she smiled.

“That’s better.”

Months passed.

Then Ethan received an invitation.

Victoria was getting married.

To another wealthy investor.

The news spread quickly.

Marcus sent Ethan the article.

Ethan read it once.

Then deleted it.

Lily watched him.

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

He nodded.

Then smiled.

“I’m late for dinner.”

“With who?”

He looked at her.

“You.”

Lily laughed.

And that was when Ethan knew he was finally free.

Not because Victoria had moved on.

Because he had.
