A Billionaire Heiress Walked Into My Clinic and Gave Me 3 Days to Marry Her… Then I Discovered Why

Chapter 7

The next morning, Charlotte called an emergency meeting with her legal team.

Ethan sat beside her.

The attorneys looked uncomfortable.

One of them finally spoke.

“Ms. Whitmore, you should consider transferring your voting shares.”

Charlotte stared.

“To whom?”

“An independent trust.”

“Controlled by?”

The attorney hesitated.

“Richard Vale.”

Ethan laughed.

“At least pretend to be subtle.”

The room went silent.

Charlotte stood.

“Everyone leaves.”

The attorneys exchanged looks.

“Now.”

They left.

Ethan turned toward her.

“Are you sure they’re all compromised?”

“No.”

“Then why fire them?”

“Because I don’t know who isn’t.”

She walked toward the window.

“My father trusted everyone.”

“Your father trusted your father.”

She looked at him.

“That’s different.”

Ethan smiled.

“You’ve started talking like him.”

“Maybe that’s why I was afraid.”

“Of becoming him?”

“Of making his mistakes.”

Ethan approached.

“You’re not him.”

She looked at him.

“How do you know?”

“Because you’re willing to question everything.”

She smiled.

“That’s what you like about me?”

“I didn’t say I liked you.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“You’re my wife.”

“For six months.”

“Right.”

He laughed.

For a moment, the tension disappeared.

Then Charlotte’s phone rang.

Her face changed.

“What?”

She listened.

“Where?”

She ended the call.

“My father’s private jet was accessed.”

“By whom?”

“The security logs were erased.”

Ethan frowned.

“What was stored on it?”

“Nothing.”

“Then why access it?”

Charlotte stared at him.

“Because my father kept something on board.”

They drove to the airport.

The jet was sealed.

Security allowed them inside.

Ethan searched the cabin.

Nothing.

Then he noticed the medical cabinet.

Inside was an old oxygen tank.

Beneath it was another hidden compartment.

A small key.

Charlotte took it.

“What’s this?”

“I don’t know.”

The key opened a locked drawer beneath the cockpit.

Inside was a videotape.

Charlotte stared.

“My father.”

They played it.

Alexander Whitmore appeared.

“Charlotte, if you’re watching this, Richard has probably already discovered the trust.”

He looked tired.

“The company is compromised.”

“Michael believes we can stop them.”

“But there is one problem.”

Alexander paused.

“The trust doesn’t activate unless you marry someone outside the family.”

Charlotte looked at Ethan.

Her father continued:

“I know this sounds cruel.”

“It isn’t.”

“It is the only way to keep Richard from controlling you.”

Alexander leaned closer to the camera.

“Michael’s son is the only person I trust to stand beside you.”

Ethan stared.

Charlotte whispered:

“He planned it.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“He knew we would meet.”

“Not exactly.”

The video continued.

“Michael and I agreed that if our children ever crossed paths, the truth should be given to them.”

Alexander looked away.

“I hope you never need this.”

The video ended.

Charlotte sat down.

“So the marriage wasn’t just about the company.”

Ethan nodded.

“What else?”

She looked at him.

“My father wanted you to protect me.”

He was silent.

“Not my shares.”

She whispered.

“Me.”
