The Single Dad Walked Into His Son’s Cafeteria — Then One Sentence Made Him Stop Cold
Chapter 10
Two years after the cafeteria incident, Daniel and Emily were engaged.
No grand announcement.
Just a quiet proposal at the lake house.
Noah helped plan it.
He chose the flowers.
Picked the dinner menu.
Even hid the ring.
He was terrible at hiding it.
Emily laughed when she found out.
“Your accomplice is not subtle.”
Daniel smiled.
“He gets it from me.”
Noah appeared.
“You’re welcome.”
The wedding was small.
Family.
Close friends.
No corporate guests.
Daniel’s daughter stood beside him.
Noah walked Emily down part of the aisle.
Then joined Daniel.
Daniel’s eyes filled.
Emily whispered:
“Ready?”
He nodded.
“Yes.”
The ceremony was simple.
Daniel said:
“I don’t promise to forget what came before.”
“I promise to honor it.”
“I don’t promise that life will always be easy.”
“I promise you won’t face it alone.”
Emily said:
“I don’t need you to be the man you were before grief.”
“I love the man who learned to stay.”
Noah cried.
Everyone laughed.
Afterward, they had dinner outside.
Noah raised a glass of lemonade.
“To Dad and Emily.”
Daniel smiled.
“Thank you.”
Noah looked serious.
“Please don’t make this weird.”
Everyone laughed.
Their family was official.
But they made one decision together.
They wouldn’t hide the old story.
They would teach Noah that his mother mattered.
They visited Anna’s grave.
They brought flowers.
Emily stood beside Noah.
“I wish I had met her.”
Noah said:
“She would like you.”
Emily smiled.
“How do you know?”
“Because she liked people who were kind.”
Daniel cried.
It was a beautiful moment.
No replacement.
No competition.
Just love.
