Clara looked at the documents.
“Why now?”
“Because I finally got tired of being afraid.”
She nodded.
He continued:
“There’s a hearing next week.”
“For my land?”
“For the watershed.”
Clara frowned.
“What’s happening?”
“The county wants to approve the resort plan.”
“That means they’ll control the water.”
“Yes.”
Clara understood.
“This is bigger than my property.”
Wade nodded.
“They want the entire valley.”
“Then we’ll stop them.”
He looked at her.
“How?”
Clara smiled.
“We use the truth.”
She called Megan.
Megan brought two retired surveyors.
They reviewed the records.

Those maps had been stored in an old county archive.
Megan knew where.
The archive was scheduled to be demolished.

Clara, Megan, and Wade drove to the building.
