The Millionaire Ate Alone Every Night — Until a Cleaning Lady’s Son Asked Him One Question
Chapter 13
When Oliver turned eighteen, Ethan gave him a gift.
Not a car.
Not money.
A key.
Oliver frowned.
“What’s this?”
“The key to my first office.”
Oliver laughed.
“What am I supposed to do with it?”
“Keep it.”
“Why?”
“Because you changed what happened in there.”
Oliver looked confused.
Ethan explained.
“Before you came into my life, that office was where I worked.”
“After you came, it became where I learned to stop working all the time.”
Oliver smiled.
“You’re welcome.”
They laughed.
Sophie had become a foundation director.
Maria was now an executive.
The company remained strong.
The family remained close.
Ethan sometimes wondered what would have happened if Oliver hadn’t asked that question.
He didn’t know.
Maybe he would still be eating alone.
Maybe Sophie would still barely speak to him.
Maybe Maria would still be cleaning rooms late at night.
Maybe the hotel would still have the same problems.
One question had started everything.
But it wasn’t really the question that changed his life.
It was the answer he chose to give.
He could have told the boy to leave.
Instead, he let him stay.
He had made room.
That’s what changed him.
