The Billionaire Pretended to Sleep Beside a Poor Boy — Then What the Child Did Left Him Crying All Night
Chapter 12
Daniel returned to the shelter where he had first met Noah.
The building had been renovated.
The old couch was gone.
The steps had been repaired.
A small garden stood near the entrance.
Noah was there.
Older now.
They stood together.
“Does it look different?”
Daniel smiled.
“Very.”
“Do you remember the first day?”
“Everything.”
“You looked miserable.”
“I was.”
“Why?”
“I was learning.”
Noah laughed.
“Still learning?”
“Always.”
They walked inside.
A group of children were eating dinner.
Daniel watched.
Noah handed one child an extra piece of fruit.
The boy smiled.
Daniel smiled too.
The circle had completed itself.
Noah had once given away his last cracker.
Now he was teaching children to share.
Daniel had once measured his worth in billions.
Now he measured it in lives improved.
The two men sat together.
Daniel asked:
“Did you ever wish I’d never come?”
Noah thought.
“No.”
“Even when you were angry?”
“Maybe then.”
They laughed.
“Fair.”
Noah looked at him.
“You changed.”
“So did you.”
“No.”
Noah smiled.
“I grew up.”
Daniel nodded.
“That’s better.”
