The Billionaire CEO Rejected Every Man for One Single Dad — Until Her Sister Revealed Why She Could Never Forget Him
Chapter 8
One evening, Ethan and Victoria walked along the lake where they had taken their first photograph.
It was cold.
Quiet.
Almost unchanged.
Victoria stopped.
“I used to come here alone.”
“Why?”
“Because it reminded me of you.”
Ethan smiled.
“I came here too.”
She looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because it reminded me of the only place I was happy.”
She looked away.
“I compared every man to you.”
He laughed softly.
“I know.”
“How?”
“Amelia told me.”
Victoria smiled.
“I rejected everyone.”
“Good.”
She laughed.
“Still arrogant.”
“Probably.”
Then he became serious.
“I compared every woman to you.”
She stopped walking.
“You did?”
“I never married.”
“Why?”
“I didn’t want a replacement.”
Victoria looked at him.
“Neither did I.”
Silence settled between them.
Ethan reached for her hand.
She let him.
Their first touch in ten years felt strangely familiar.
Not like starting over.
Like returning to something unfinished.
Victoria whispered:
“I’m afraid.”
“Of what?”
“That we’ll hurt each other again.”
Ethan squeezed her hand.
“Then we don’t rush.”
She nodded.
For the first time, they agreed on the same thing.
Love didn’t need to happen all at once.
It could be rebuilt.
One honest day at a time.
