She Hired a Poor Mechanic to Fix Her Car… Then Discovered He Was a Billionaire!
Chapter 9
One month later, Emma visited the garage.
Daniel was underneath a car.
She stood there.
“Need help?”
His voice came from beneath the vehicle.
“No.”
“Sure?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
He slid out.
“You came to see me.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She handed him a small envelope.
He opened it.
Inside was a check.
Daniel stared.
“What is this?”
“For the repair.”
He laughed.
“This is ridiculous.”
“It’s for fifty dollars.”
He looked at the check.
It was exactly fifty dollars.
“Seriously?”
“Yes.”
He smiled.
“You remembered.”
“I remember everything.”
They sat outside the garage.
Emma looked at him.
“I owe you an apology.”
“For what?”
“For assuming you were poor.”
“You didn’t know.”
“I judged you.”
“You judged the clothes.”
She smiled.
“Maybe.”
He looked at her.
“I liked that.”
“What?”
“You didn’t know who I was.”
Emma’s smile faded.
“Does it bother you that I know now?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re still here.”
She looked at him.
“I’m still here.”
Daniel took a breath.
“There is something I want to tell you.”
Emma waited.
“I didn’t just help you because of the company.”
“I know.”
“I helped because I cared.”
She smiled.
“When did you start caring?”
“The moment you argued with me over fifty dollars.”
She laughed.
“That was romantic.”
“I thought so.”
He reached for her hand.
Emma let him.
The billionaire and the woman who had hired him as a mechanic sat together in front of a rundown garage.
Neither cared about the difference in their bank accounts.
They cared about the difference in how they felt.
But Emma had one question.
“Why didn’t you tell me the truth sooner?”
Daniel looked down.
“Because I wanted one person to like me without knowing my name.”
She squeezed his hand.
“I liked you before I knew.”
He looked at her.
“And now?”
She smiled.
“I like you even more.”
