She Helped a Homeless Stranger… Not Knowing He Was a Billionaire in Disguise
Chapter 10
Nathaniel refused.
Richard’s voice remained calm.
“If you don’t, your brother dies.”
Nathaniel looked toward the ambulance carrying Jonathan away.
“You shot him.”
“No.”
Richard sounded almost amused.
“I gave someone instructions.”
“Same thing.”
“Bring the ledger.”
“Where?”
“The Bellweather construction site.”
Olivia immediately shook her head.
Nathaniel understood.
It was a trap.
But if they didn’t go, Jonathan might die.
They contacted federal investigators.
This time, they had enough evidence.
Bank records.
Audio recordings.
The microfilm.
Jonathan’s testimony.
But they still needed Richard.
They agreed to cooperate with the authorities.
Nathaniel would meet Richard.
Olivia would remain with investigators.
But Olivia refused.
“I’m going.”
“No.”
“You can’t stop me.”
“I can.”
She looked at him.
“You saved me when I was scared.”
“I did.”
“Now let me return the favor.”
Nathaniel stared at her.
Finally, he nodded.
They arrived at the construction site at 11 p.m.
The building was unfinished.
Concrete floors.
Exposed wiring.
Empty rooms.
Richard waited on the top floor.
He stood beside a window.
“You look like your father.”
Nathaniel approached.
“Where is Jonathan?”
“Alive.”
“Prove it.”
Richard showed him a video.
Jonathan was in a hospital room.
Alive.
Olivia’s fists tightened.
“Release him.”
“After the ledger.”
Nathaniel held up the microfilm.
Richard smiled.
“Give it to me.”
Nathaniel didn’t move.
“Why did you do it?”
Richard looked amused.
“Money.”
“That’s all?”
“Power.”
“People died.”
“People always die.”
Olivia stared at him.
“You destroyed families.”
Richard looked at her.
“Your father understood the game.”
“My father tried to stop you.”
“He failed.”
“No.”
Olivia stepped forward.
“He left evidence.”
Richard’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
But she saw it.
Nathaniel noticed too.
Richard raised a hand.
Two men appeared.
One grabbed Olivia.
Nathaniel moved toward her.
A gun was raised.
“Don’t.”
Richard took the microfilm.
“Thank you.”
He walked toward the stairs.
Then stopped.
“Your father made one mistake.”
Nathaniel said nothing.
“He trusted someone.”
Richard looked at Olivia.
“Just like you did.”
Richard left.
The men disappeared.
Then federal agents stormed the building.
They had followed the signal.
But Richard was gone.
The microfilm was fake.
Nathaniel had given him a blank strip.
The real evidence remained with Olivia.
She smiled.
“Your father taught you well.”
Nathaniel laughed.
“Maybe.”
They returned to headquarters.
Investigators analyzed the real ledger.
It was enough to expose the network.
But there was one missing piece.
The architect’s connection to the politicians.
Richard could deny everything.
Then Olivia remembered the hidden audio file.
Her father’s recording contained another voice.
They isolated it.
Richard.
He admitted everything.
But there was more.
A second voice.
A politician.
A senator.
And a judge.
The investigation exploded.
Federal agents raided offices across three states.
Accounts were frozen.
Executives arrested.
Companies shut down.
Richard fled.
For two days, nobody knew where he was.
Then Olivia received a text.
You were right to help the stranger.
She showed Nathaniel.
He looked at the number.
“Richard.”
The next message arrived.
But you still don’t know what your father sacrificed.
Then an address.
Montana.
Nathaniel stared.
“He’s leading us to my father.”
Olivia nodded.
“Then let’s go.”
