She Fell in Love With a Worker — Unaware He Was the Millionaire Architect and Owner!

Chapter 12

The inspection report contained twelve violations.

Half were legitimate.

Half were fabricated.

Daniel knew immediately.

Someone had altered the records.

If the project shut down for even thirty days, the financing would collapse.

The consortium would acquire the remaining shares.

The Eastwood neighborhood would be lost.

Daniel called everyone he trusted.

Engineers.

Contractors.

Lawyers.

But there was one person he needed most.

Emma.

She stood beside the unfinished entrance.

“What do you need?”

“Your father kept old maintenance records.”

She frowned.

“How do you know?”

“Because Thomas mentioned them.”

She smiled.

“You’ve been reading everything.”

“Yes.”

They searched the archive room.

Hours passed.

Then Emma found a box.

Inside were inspection reports from twenty years ago.

The same wiring.

The same foundation.

The same drainage system.

She spotted something.

“The original building plans.”

Daniel took them.

The current inspection report claimed the foundation had been altered illegally.

But the old plans proved otherwise.

Someone had falsified the report.

Daniel called the city.

Within hours, an independent inspector arrived.

The violations were dismissed.

The project remained open.

Richard was arrested after investigators traced several fraudulent payments to his personal accounts.

Alex attempted to leave the country.

He was stopped at the airport.

But the consortium remained.

Daniel traced the ownership chain.

One company.

Then another.

Then another.

Finally, the name appeared.

Sterling Heritage Foundation.

His mother’s trust.

Daniel stared.

“That’s impossible.”

Emma looked at the paperwork.

“Maybe your mother wasn’t protecting the company.”

“What do you mean?”

“She was protecting the neighborhood.”

Daniel read the trust’s original purpose.

The foundation held land so it could never be sold for private development.

The consortium had been trying to gain control because the foundation’s voting rights could determine the future of Eastwood.

The takeover wasn’t about Sterling Urban Group.

It was about the land.

Daniel’s mother had predicted exactly what would happen.

And she had given the control to someone outside the family.

Emma looked at the document.

“Who?”

Daniel read the final line.

The community board.

Not Daniel.

Not Alex.

Not Richard.

The people of Eastwood.

Emma smiled.

“She knew.”

“She did.”

“She knew one person shouldn’t control everything.”

Daniel looked at her.

“That includes me.”

“Especially you.”

He laughed.

“Fair.”

That evening, the community board voted unanimously to preserve the center.

The foundation transferred the land into permanent community ownership.

The luxury development plan collapsed.

The consortium lost.

And Eastwood finally had its future.

But Daniel still had one question.

“What does this mean for us?”

Emma looked at him.

“You tell me.”

He reached for her hand.

“I don’t want to be your boss.”

“Good.”

“I don’t want to hide from you.”

“Good.”

“I don’t want to lose you.”

Emma smiled.

“That’s better.”

He kissed her.

It wasn’t dramatic.

It wasn’t in front of cameras.

It was quiet.

Simple.

Real.

When they pulled apart, Emma whispered,

“I loved the worker.”

Daniel smiled.

“I’m still a worker.”

“You’re a millionaire architect.”

“Both can be true.”

She laughed.

“I suppose.”

Then a voice interrupted them.

“Mr. Sterling!”

Daniel turned.

One of the workers stood at the entrance.

“The last wall is ready.”

Daniel looked at Emma.

“Come on.”

“What?”

“Let’s finish what our families started.”
