She Came to Claim Her Grandfather’s Ranch With Two Children — The Poor Rancher Offered Them a Home

Chapter 10

They traveled north in spring.

The journey took weeks.

Anna had never imagined leaving the ranch.

But she knew Elias needed the truth.

They found his father in a small settlement near the mountains.

His name was no longer Boone.

He had lived as a quiet farmer.

When Elias stepped into the doorway, the older man froze.

“Elias?”

His son could barely speak.

“You’re alive.”

His father lowered his head.

“I thought it was safer if you believed I was dead.”

“You left us.”

“I know.”

“You let me believe you abandoned us.”

“I had no choice.”

Elias’s anger burned.

But then he saw the scars on his father’s neck.

The missing finger.

The fear in his eyes.

And he understood.

His father told them everything.

Thomas Boone had discovered Crowe’s conspiracy.

He had hidden the original deed.

He had protected Samuel’s property.

When Crowe learned the truth, he tried to kill him.

Thomas escaped.

He left Elias’s mother and child behind because Crowe threatened to murder them if he returned.

Elias’s father had spent twenty years living with guilt.

“I should have fought harder.”

Elias looked at him.

“You survived.”

His father began crying.

Anna stepped forward.

“You kept the ranch safe.”

The old man looked at her.

“Samuel would have been proud.”

That night, they sat together.

For the first time in decades, Thomas Boone slept without fear.

They returned to the valley months later.

Crowe was convicted after the documents were presented to colonial authorities.

The corrupt officials lost their positions.

The stolen farms were returned.

The river was declared common land.

And Anna’s inheritance was recognized.

But there was a problem.

The ranch needed money.

Years of neglect had damaged the fences.

The cattle herd was small.

The barns needed rebuilding.

Anna looked at the property.

“We could sell.”

Elias shook his head.

“No.”

“You don’t have to stay.”

“I know.”

She smiled.

“Why don’t you ever say no without that?”

“Because I want you to choose.”

Anna looked at the fields.

“I choose to stay.”

Elias nodded.

“Then I’ll stay too.”

Matthew ran toward them.

“Does that mean this is our home?”

Anna looked at Elias.

He nodded.

“Yes.”

Rose hugged Anna’s skirt.

“And are you staying too, Mr. Boone?”

Elias crouched.

“If your mother will have me.”

Rose looked at Anna.

“Will you?”

Anna laughed.

“I think we can keep him.”

Elias smiled.

“Good.”

The ranch slowly came back to life.

But the hardest part wasn’t rebuilding the fences.

It was rebuilding trust.

Anna had spent years believing every home eventually disappeared.

Elias had spent years believing family meant duty rather than love.

Together, they learned otherwise.
