“College.”
“Are you ready?”
“No.”
Victoria laughed.
“At least you’re honest.”
Daniel looked at the lights reflecting off the water.
“I spent so many years protecting her that I forgot she was growing up.”
“You gave her something important.”
“What?”
“Confidence.”
Daniel looked at Victoria.
“That’s what you give people too.”
She shook her head.
“Not always.”
“You’re learning.”
“So are you.”
Daniel smiled.
Their relationship remained complicated.

“I know.”
“This could get messy.”
“I know.”
“You’re my boss.”

He frowned.
“What do you mean?”
She smiled.
“I resigned as CEO.”
Daniel blinked.
“You what?”
“The board approved your appointment as interim CEO for the transition.”
Daniel stared at her.
“That sounds insane.”
“It sounds like freedom.”
