“Can You Be The Father Of My Baby For One Day?” She Asked… And I Said, “Only If You Tell Me Why”
Chapter 7
Daniel didn’t speak for several seconds.
Olivia looked terrified.
“I can explain.”
“My name?”
“I know.”
“The baby’s legal father is listed as me?”
“Yes.”
“How?”
“Noah did it.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
“You expect me to believe that?”
“I don’t expect anything.”
Daniel stepped away.
He needed air.
“My name is on a legal document for a child that isn’t mine.”
“I know.”
“Why did Noah choose me?”
“He told me that you were the only man he trusted.”
“You had never met me.”
“He knew of you.”
“From Sarah?”
Olivia nodded.
“Your wife.”
Daniel stared at the ocean.
Everything he thought he knew about Sarah was changing.
Olivia moved closer.
“I’m sorry.”
Daniel turned.
“How long have you known?”
“Three months.”
“And you still asked me to pretend?”
“I had no choice.”
“You always have a choice.”
“Not when they can take my baby.”
Daniel’s anger softened.
He saw the fear in her face.
The desperation.
The pregnancy.
The woman who had walked into his life asking for one day because she had run out of people she trusted.
He sighed.
“I need the whole story.”
Olivia nodded.
She told him everything.
Noah had discovered the trust.
Richard wanted to control it.
Olivia refused.
Noah tried to help her.
Then he disappeared.
Before he vanished, Noah created a legal protection document naming Daniel as emergency guardian of the baby if Olivia was harmed.
Not because Daniel was the father.
Because Sarah had once helped Noah.
And Noah believed Daniel would protect the child.
“But why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I thought you’d refuse.”
Daniel looked at her.
“I might have.”
“I know.”
“So you lied.”
“Yes.”
“Again.”
“Yes.”
He looked away.
Then he asked,
“Do you love Noah?”
Olivia’s eyes filled with tears.
“I did.”
“But?”
“I love the life I thought we’d have.”
She touched her stomach.
“But I don’t know where he is.”
Daniel nodded.
He understood more than he wanted to.
That night, they returned to the estate.
The family dinner had already begun.
Richard stood when they entered.
“You were gone.”
Olivia looked at him.
“We had business.”
Richard’s gaze moved to Daniel.
“What business?”
Daniel answered,
“Your daughter’s future.”
Richard’s face tightened.
Nathan stood.
“Enough.”
Daniel looked at him.
“No.”
He put the documents on the table.
The trust agreement.
The guardianship papers.
The payments.
The security records.
Everyone stared.
Richard went pale.
“Where did you get those?”
Daniel smiled.
“From your missing adviser.”
Silence.
Richard sat down.
“You have no idea what you’re holding.”
Daniel answered,
“I know enough.”
Then Marcus Shaw entered.
He had a gun.
Everyone froze.
Richard turned.
“What are you doing?”
Marcus looked at Olivia.
“You weren’t supposed to find the locker.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Why?”
Marcus’s eyes moved to him.
“Because Noah made one mistake.”
“What?”
“He trusted you.”
Daniel’s blood ran cold.
Marcus raised the gun.
But before he could fire, Nathan tackled him.
The weapon slid across the floor.
Security rushed in.
Marcus fought desperately.
Then Richard shouted,
“Stop!”
Everyone looked at him.
Richard walked toward Marcus.
“You’ve failed.”
Marcus laughed.
“Your daughter knows.”
Richard’s face hardened.
“Know what?”
Marcus looked at Olivia.
“Your father didn’t kill Noah.”
Olivia froze.
Daniel turned.
“Then who did?”
Marcus smiled.
The answer came softly.
“Your mother.”
Olivia’s face went white.
Her mother had been silent the entire night.
She slowly stood.
Then said,
“It’s true.”
