“Can You Be The Father Of My Baby For One Day?” She Asked… And I Said, “Only If You Tell Me Why”
Chapter 11
The trust was activated the following morning.
Olivia’s baby became the legal beneficiary.
Every hidden payment surfaced.
Every false account was linked.
The Mercer network was exposed.
Richard was arrested.
Nathan surrendered.
Ethan was charged.
The security company was dismantled.
And Daniel’s name was cleared.
But the victory didn’t feel complete.
Olivia stood in the hospital room for a routine final examination.
Daniel waited outside.
He had expected to feel relieved.
Instead, he felt nervous.
When Olivia came out, she was smiling.
“The baby is fine.”
Daniel smiled.
“Good.”
She stared at him.
“You’re shaking.”
“No.”
“You are.”
He laughed.
“Maybe.”
She stepped closer.
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
“Yes, you do.”
He looked at her.
“I think I’m afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Losing you.”
She went quiet.
“You know I’m not going anywhere.”
“I don’t?”
“No.”
“But you loved Noah.”
“I did.”
“Do you still?”
She thought for a long time.
“I love who he was.”
Daniel nodded.
“And what about now?”
She looked into his eyes.
“I don’t know.”
He waited.
She touched his hand.
“But I know what I feel when you’re around.”
“What?”
“Safe.”
He smiled sadly.
“You asked me to be the father of your baby for one day.”
She laughed softly.
“I know.”
“I think I misunderstood the assignment.”
“How?”
“I thought I was pretending to protect your child.”
He touched her hand.
“Somewhere along the way, I started wanting to protect you too.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Daniel.”
Before she could say more, the door opened.
Noah stood there.
He looked healthier.
Stronger.
He smiled.
“You two look serious.”
Olivia stepped back.
Noah noticed immediately.
“It’s okay.”
She looked at him.
“What?”
“I understand.”
“Understand what?”
“Noah?”
He smiled.
“I was the man you loved.”
“Yes.”
“But Daniel is the man who stayed.”
Silence.
Olivia’s eyes filled.
Noah hugged her.
“You deserve someone who stays.”
Daniel looked away.
He hadn’t expected this.
Noah turned to him.
“Take care of her.”
Daniel nodded.
“I will.”
Noah smiled.
“I know.”
Then he left.
Olivia watched him go.
She cried quietly.
Daniel stepped closer.
“You don’t have to decide anything today.”
She looked at him.
“I already did.”
“What?”
She took his hand.
“I don’t want a fake father.”
He stared.
“I want a real family.”
