Billionaire Caught Her Janitor Teaching His Daughter Math—Then His Tattoo Exposed a Shocking Secret
Chapter 5
Victoria didn’t know whether to laugh or panic.
“What do you mean he doesn’t count correctly?”
Emma shrugged.
“He skips numbers.”
“Where?”
“In the hallway.”
Victoria knelt.
“Show me.”
Emma took her hand.
They walked toward the executive corridor.
She pointed to the marble floor.
“There.”
Victoria saw nothing.
Emma counted the tiles.
“One, two, three, four…”
She stopped.
“Seven.”
Then she pointed.
“There should be eight.”
Victoria looked closer.
One tile had been replaced.
She touched it.
Loose.
Underneath was a tiny metal box.
Her heart raced.
She pulled it out.
Inside was a microdrive.
Victoria stared.
Emma smiled.
“I told you.”
Victoria looked at her daughter.
“How did you know?”
Emma shrugged.
“Numbers.”
The microdrive contained financial transactions.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Payments to shell companies.
Transfers through Bennett Global.
And one account connected to Adrian Cole.
Victoria’s hands shook.
Before she could copy the files, the lights went out.
Emma grabbed her hand.
“Mom.”
“I have you.”
Footsteps approached.
Victoria moved toward the security door.
A flashlight appeared.
Then Lucas stepped into the corridor.
He was wearing dark clothes.
No janitor uniform.
His face was serious.
“You need to leave.”
Victoria stared.
“You look different.”
“I am.”
“You were military.”
“Yes.”
“Special operations?”
He nodded.
“How did you know?”
She pointed at the tattoo.
“Because Daniel left this.”
Lucas looked surprised.
“You found everything.”
“Not everything.”
He glanced at Emma.
“She found the drive.”
Victoria studied him.
“You knew she could.”
“Yes.”
“That’s why you taught her math.”
Lucas shook his head.
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because math is the only thing that calms her when she’s afraid.”
Victoria’s heart softened.
He knew her daughter better than most tutors.
“How long have you been watching her?”
“Since she was five.”
“You’ve been here for three years?”
“Not as the janitor.”
“What were you doing?”
“Protecting her.”
Victoria stepped closer.
“From whom?”
Lucas looked toward the dark hallway.
“Orion.”
He explained.
Daniel had hired Lucas after discovering someone inside Bennett Global wanted Emma.
Lucas became part of the cleaning staff because it gave him access without attracting attention.
He could move through the building unnoticed.
He watched security.
Monitored executives.
Protected Emma.
But he had never expected Victoria to discover him.
“Why the tattoo?”
Victoria asked.
“It identifies Orion operatives.”
“Were you one?”
Lucas shook his head.
“I was rescued from them.”
She stared.
“By Daniel.”
“Yes.”
“Then why would they want Emma?”
“Because your father’s old system requires a human pattern-recognition key.”
Victoria looked at her daughter.
“She can unlock it.”
Lucas nodded.
“And whoever controls her can control Orion.”
Victoria’s face hardened.
“No one is touching my daughter.”
Lucas looked at her.
“That’s why I’m here.”
A gunshot echoed from downstairs.
Lucas immediately moved Victoria and Emma behind the wall.
Security sirens began.
“What’s happening?”
“Someone’s inside.”
“Adrian?”
“Probably.”
Victoria looked at him.
“Can you protect us?”
Lucas stared.
“Yes.”
The answer was absolute.
He moved Emma into a secure room.
Victoria followed.
“Stay here.”
“No.”
Lucas looked at her.
“This isn’t negotiable.”
“I’m not leaving my daughter.”
“I know.”
He looked at Victoria.
“That’s why I need you to trust me.”
She hesitated.
Then nodded.
Lucas disappeared into the hallway.
Victoria watched through the security monitor.
He moved through the darkness with terrifying precision.
Not like a janitor.
Like a trained operative.
Three men entered.
Lucas disarmed the first.
Disabled the second.
The third escaped.
Then Lucas returned.
“It’s clear.”
Victoria stared.
“You’re not a janitor.”
He smiled faintly.
“Not really.”
Emma looked at him.
“I told Mom.”
Lucas laughed.
Victoria realized something.
The man she thought was invisible had been the only person in her building watching everything.
And now he was standing between her daughter and a conspiracy worth billions.
