Thomas’s voice echoed through the warehouse.
“You’ve spent your life thinking your father abandoned you.”
Ethan said nothing.
“He didn’t.”
The lights came back on.
A screen appeared.
Thomas Sterling’s face filled it.
Older.
Silver-haired.
Calm.
Amelia stared.
“My uncle.”
Thomas smiled.
“Hello, Amelia.”
“Why?”
“Because your father chose you.”
“He chose Ethan.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because Ethan is harder to manipulate.”
Ethan stepped forward.
“Where’s my father?”
Thomas’s expression changed.
“He’s dead.”
Ethan closed his eyes.
“Then why did you say he didn’t abandon me?”
“Because he died protecting you.”
Ethan’s voice hardened.
“You killed him.”
Thomas shook his head.
“No.”
“I know what you did.”
“You know part of it.”
“What part?”
Thomas explained.
Daniel’s car was sabotaged.
But the crash didn’t kill him immediately.
He survived long enough to transfer the trust.
Then Thomas found him.
Daniel refused to reveal where the evidence was hidden.
Thomas left him.
He died later from his injuries.
Ethan felt sick.
“You left my father to die.”
Thomas smiled sadly.
“I thought he would eventually tell me.”
Amelia stepped forward.
“You destroyed my family.”
“No.”
Thomas looked at her.
“Your family destroyed itself.”
“What do you want?”
“The trust.”
“You can’t have it.”
“I don’t need you to agree.”
Thomas revealed the plan.
The board would declare Amelia incompetent.
The court would freeze the family trust.
Thomas would step in through the Atlas subsidiary.
But the final barrier was Ethan.
The trust Daniel had created gave Ethan controlling rights over the most sensitive Atlas assets.
If Ethan surrendered them, Thomas won.
If Ethan refused, Thomas could attack through the courts.
“So that’s why I was hired.”
Thomas smiled.
“Yes.”
“By whom?”
“Your grandmother.”
Amelia froze.
“What?”
“Margaret wanted Ethan close to you.”
“Why?”
“To protect you.”
“So she knew?”
“She knew enough.”
Thomas paused.
“She never trusted me.”
“And she manipulated Ethan.”
“Yes.”
Ethan felt betrayed.
Thomas continued:
“She thought you would trust Ethan.”
Amelia looked at him.
“I do.”
Thomas smiled.
“That is unfortunate.”
He ended the transmission.
Security rushed in.
They had to leave.
Back at the office, Ethan opened Daniel’s trust documents.
They were real.
He controlled the Atlas assets.
Not because he wanted them.
Because his father had trusted him.
Amelia sat beside him.
“I should have told you I was afraid.”
He looked at her.
“I know.”
“You keep saying that.”
“I know what it feels like.”
She smiled faintly.
“Then you understand.”
“Yes.”
They sat silently.
Then Ethan asked:
“Do you still want me as your assistant?”
She laughed.
“Technically, you’re terrible at following orders.”
He smiled.
“Good.”
She looked at him.
“Then stay.”
“Why?”
“Because I trust you.”
Ethan nodded.
“I’ll stay.”
The next morning, Amelia held a press conference.
She announced an internal investigation.
She disclosed the Atlas controversy.
She froze suspicious accounts.
She suspended several executives.
The public reacted immediately.
But Thomas made his move.
The board filed for emergency control.
The legal battle began.
And Ethan realized the only way to win wasn’t to destroy Thomas.
It was to expose why Atlas had been built.
