She Was Forced to Marry a Poor Stranger — Unaware He Was a Billionaire Hiding His Identity
Chapter 6
The train station had been abandoned for years.
Broken windows.
Old tracks.
No lights.
Ethan arrived first.
Clara followed.
Someone was waiting.
An elderly woman.
She wore a long coat and held a walking stick.
“Laura?”
The woman looked at Clara.
Then at Ethan.
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You have your mother’s face.”
Clara’s breath caught.
“Did you know Anna?”
Laura nodded.
“I helped her disappear.”
Ethan stepped closer.
“Where is she?”
Laura’s lips trembled.
“She died.”
Silence.
“When?”
“Five years ago.”
Ethan closed his eyes.
“How?”
“Cancer.”
He sat down.
“She was alive.”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t she contact me?”
“Because Richard was still watching.”
“I thought she was dead.”
“I know.”
Laura reached into her bag.
She pulled out a letter.
“She wrote this for you.”
Ethan opened it.
Dear Ethan,
I wanted to come home.
Every day.
But I believed the only way to keep you alive was to stay gone.
Richard knew about the missing money.
He knew I had evidence.
I could not risk him finding you.
I am sorry.
Please don’t spend your life hating the people who were afraid.
Not everyone was brave.
But some tried.
Ethan’s hands shook.
Clara stood beside him.
“He loved you,” Laura said.
“Who?”
“Your father.”
Ethan looked up.
“My father?”
“He helped me hide Anna.”
“Then why didn’t he tell me?”
“He was killed.”
Ethan froze.
“When?”
“The same year Anna disappeared.”
Clara felt the air leave the room.
“Who killed him?”
Laura looked at her.
“Richard Bennett.”
Ethan closed his eyes.
Everything fell into place.
The financial fraud.
Anna’s disappearance.
His father’s death.
Richard had been protecting the stolen money.
And now the secret had returned.
Clara turned toward Laura.
“Why did my uncle force me to marry Ethan?”
Laura hesitated.
“Because Richard needed access to his fortune.”
Ethan looked confused.
“What fortune?”
Laura explained.
His father had placed a hidden inheritance in Ethan’s name.
But it could only be accessed through a business partnership with Bennett Industries.
Richard knew.
He had arranged the marriage to gain control.
But he had made one mistake.
He underestimated Clara.
She didn’t know what she had.
Ethan realized it.
“He thought I’d sign over everything.”
“Yes.”
Clara shook her head.
“He used me.”
“He used both of you.”
Laura handed Ethan one more envelope.
Inside was a contract.
Richard had arranged for Ethan to transfer his hidden inheritance to Bennett Industries after the marriage.
The document had been prepared before Clara and Ethan ever met.
Ethan stared at it.
“He planned everything.”
Clara nodded.
Then she noticed something.
The signature line was blank.
“He expected us to sign.”
They looked at each other.
For the first time, they were united by something that wasn’t forced.
Trust.
They returned home.
Ethan burned the contract.
Clara watched.
“What now?”
“Now we expose him.”
“Richard?”
“Yes.”
“How?”
Ethan smiled.
“Your uncle left one thing behind.”
“What?”
“The evidence.”
They searched his offices.
Then found a hidden server.
Financial records.
Payments.
Wire transfers.
Proof of the twenty-year conspiracy.
And one video.
Richard appeared on screen.
He spoke directly to someone.
“I’ve already arranged the marriage.”
Clara froze.
Richard continued.
“The girl knows nothing.”
Then another voice.
Ethan recognized it.
Victor Lane.
The chairman of Vale Global’s competitor.
Someone Ethan had trusted.
The two men discussed stealing Ethan’s inheritance.
Clara looked at him.
“This goes deeper.”
“Yes.”
They watched the recording until the end.
Richard said one final sentence.
“Once they marry, the money will be ours.”
Ethan stopped the video.
Their forced marriage had never been about saving the company.
It had been a trap.
But now the trap had failed.
Because the billionaire and the woman he had been forced to marry had started becoming something neither man had planned.
Partners.
