“I Fixed My CEO’s Broken Fence — Then She Personally Thanked Me Over Dinner”

Chapter 8

The file contained a video.

My father appeared on screen.

He looked older than I remembered.

Tired.

Afraid.

But determined.

“If you’re watching this,” he said, “then Victoria is still alive.”

Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.

She had never seen the recording.

My father continued.

“The board will attempt to remove her using fabricated evidence.”

A folder appeared on screen.

“These documents prove the fraud.”

Then he paused.

“But evidence alone isn’t enough.”

He looked directly into the camera.

“You need someone inside the boardroom.”

Victoria frowned.

“Who?”

My father said:

“Someone they believe is loyal to them.”

The video ended.

Victoria stared at me.

“Who?”

I opened the final document.

A name appeared.

Mr. Collins.

I shook my head.

“He worked for them.”

“Apparently.”

“He betrayed them.”

“Maybe.”

Then another file opened.

Collins had secretly recorded board meetings for years.

We listened.

The board had planned everything.

The acquisition of smaller companies.

The transfer of funds.

The attempt to poison Victoria’s reputation.

And the murder of my father.

But there was something else.

A recording from four years earlier.

Victoria’s father was speaking.

“I won’t allow you to hurt my daughter.”

James Carter replied:

“You don’t have a choice.”

Then a third voice.

Collins.

“I’ll handle it.”

The recording ended.

Victoria sat down.

“He tried to protect me.”

I nodded.

“And Collins helped him.”

She looked at me.

“Then why did Collins disappear?”

“Maybe he was afraid.”

“Or maybe he was waiting.”

We didn’t have time to decide.

The board meeting was already beginning.

Victoria and I drove to Whitmore headquarters.

The executive floor was crowded.

Board members sat around the long conference table.

James Carter stood at the front.

“Victoria,” he said.

She walked in calmly.

“James.”

“You were asked not to attend.”

“I own forty-three percent of this company.”

“Not for long.”

He placed a folder on the table.

“Financial misconduct.”

Victoria smiled.

“Fabricated.”

He looked surprised.

“What?”

She placed the laptop on the table.

“Would you like to see the original records?”

Nobody spoke.

The room changed instantly.

Victoria pressed play.

The first recording began.

Board members stared at each other.

James stood.

“Where did you get that?”

“From the company’s original archives.”

“That’s illegal.”

“Is it?”

She played another recording.

Then another.

Each one exposed another member.

I watched their faces.

Fear.

Anger.

Desperation.

Then one director stood.

“This is manipulated.”

I stepped forward.

“No.”

Everyone looked at me.

“I’m an engineer.”

James laughed.

“You’re a groundskeeper.”

“Currently.”

I connected the laptop to the conference screen.

Financial records appeared.

I explained the circular transactions.

The fake subsidiaries.

The hidden accounts.

The missing funds.

One by one, the board members realized they had nowhere to hide.

Then the doors opened.

Federal investigators entered.

Victoria looked at me.

“You called them?”

I nodded.

“Your father left enough evidence.”

James tried to leave.

Security stopped him.

He turned toward Victoria.

“You think this ends here?”

She stared.

“No.”

James smiled.

“Then ask your friend Collins where he really stands.”

Everyone froze.

My phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

Collins spoke.

“Daniel.”

“Where are you?”

“At your father’s grave.”

My blood ran cold.

“Why?”

“Because there’s something you need to see.”

Then the line went dead.
