“CHEAP MAN!” She Left Her Fiancé For Her Lover—Unaware He Was Heir To A $4B Empire

Chapter 11

Ten years later, Daniel’s son was a teenager.

The boy had grown up surrounded by wealth.

But Daniel refused to let him become entitled.

On his sixteenth birthday, he gave him a used car.

The boy stared at it.

“Seriously?”

“Yes.”

“Dad.”

“You can use it.”

“But why not the new one?”

“Because I want you to learn responsibility.”

Sophie smiled from the doorway.

“You sound exactly like your father.”

Daniel laughed.

“I know.”

The boy looked at the old car.

Then at his father.

“Were you really called cheap?”

Daniel smiled.

“Yes.”

“By Mom?”

“Yes.”

The boy laughed.

Sophie pointed at him.

“Careful.”

He grinned.

Later that evening, he asked:

“Dad, were you rich when Mom left you?”

“Yes.”

“Did she know?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did she leave?”

Daniel thought.

“Because she wanted something she believed money would give her.”

“What?”

“Security.”

“Didn’t you already have money?”

“Yes.”

“But she didn’t know what you had?”

“Not everything.”

The boy nodded.

“Did you forgive her?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Daniel smiled.

“Because people can grow.”

His son thought about that.

“Did she?”

Daniel looked toward Sophie.

“Yes.”

Sophie heard him.

She smiled.

Their son eventually became involved in the foundation.

He studied engineering.

He wanted to work on clean-energy projects.

Daniel was proud.

Meanwhile, Cole Global became one of the most respected private companies in the world.

Transparency became part of its culture.

Employees participated in decisions.

Community boards had voting rights.

The company’s wealth grew.

But the family remained grounded.

Every Christmas, they returned to the same small restaurant where Sophie had once ended their engagement.

The owner had become a friend.

One year, Sophie looked around.

“This place started everything.”

Daniel smiled.

“Unfortunately.”

She laughed.

“I was terrible.”

“Yes.”

“Still married to me.”

“I’m patient.”

She kissed him.

Their son groaned.

“Can we eat?”

Everyone laughed.

Later that night, Daniel walked outside alone.

He looked at the street.

He remembered sitting inside years earlier.

The ring.

The insult.

The humiliation.

He had thought losing Sophie was the worst night of his life.

Now he knew better.

It was the night he stopped measuring his value through someone else’s eyes.

That realization mattered more than the inheritance.

Because if Sophie had stayed for the money, Daniel would never have known whether she loved him.

By leaving, she forced him to become himself.

And by returning, she proved that people could change.

He looked up at the sky.

“Thanks, Dad.”

He wasn’t sure whether he was speaking to Alexander…

or to life itself.
