She was intelligent, disciplined, elegant, and almost impossible to impress.
Whenever her friends introduced her to someone, Victoria listened politely.

“So?”

Amelia dropped into the chair opposite her.

Victoria finally looked up.
“What is?”
“You compare every man to him.”

“Ethan isn’t like them.”
“There it is.”
“What?”
“That look.”
Victoria closed her laptop.
“Amelia.”
“You haven’t seen him in ten years.”
“I know.”
“You don’t even know where he lives.”
“I know.”
“You don’t know whether he’s married.”
Victoria’s face tightened.
“He isn’t.”
Amelia stared.
“How do you know?”
Victoria looked away.
“I just do.”
Amelia shook her head.
“You’ve rejected doctors, lawyers, CEOs, athletes, and at least one prince.”
“I didn’t reject the prince because of Ethan.”
“Why, then?”
“He was rude to the waiter.”
Amelia laughed.
“You’re impossible.”
Victoria smiled faintly.
Then her phone rang.
Her assistant told her a major investor meeting had been moved.
Victoria stood.
“Tell them I’ll be there.”
Amelia watched her leave.
She knew something Victoria refused to admit.
Her sister hadn’t moved on from Ethan because she didn’t know how.
